Victorian Farm Christmas

Victorian Farm Christmas: The preparations are almost done and ready to celebrate this is the best of the three episodes

Part one: Being American when I think pudding I think of Jello. The British version is so different from what we are use to. I don't think I will ever think of Christmas pudding again.

Part two: Food was so different back then, on this episode they show a extraordinary traditional meat pie of literally a chicken, a goose and a duck stuck inside each other. I can't even imagine how that would taste. This episode even show the very actual first Christmas card.

Part three: oh my I do feel so naive, The Victorians seemed to find uses for everything, even stale urine. Otherwise this is a great episode that shows beautiful ways of Victorian decorating.

Part 4: this is my favorite of all these parts. In this part you see a traditional wassailing, traditional church service and feast.

I want to thank the writer of Grym Wytche Farm blog for turning me on to this sweet little program. I didn't put all the episodes on here, but if you would like to watch them check them out on this playlist
to see them consecutively. For more information on this show, visit BBC Hope you enjoyed :)

Have yourself a Merry litle Christmas

Of all the Christmas songs, this is hands down one of my favorites. Their is something about Judy Garlands voice, she is was amazing. This is from one of my favorite movies ever. Meet me in St Louis a beautiful movie that showcases the lifestyle and charm of the turn of the century.

Christmas Past, at the Geffrye

How would we have lived if we lived in the 1600's, 1700's, 1800's? I know most people don't wonder these things, but I have always. I am the kind of person that has always felt like she should have been born in another time. If I ever make it to London I will definitely have to visit the Geffrye museum of the home. A museum of period rooms, showcasing the living rooms from 1630 to modern times.

They are currently displaying their annual Christmas past exhibition. Every room and garden is now decorated for Christmas. I would love to be able to see this.

For most of us that don't live near London, we can at least check out the website. The website offers 360 views and virtual tours of their various rooms and gardens. As well as pictures of their collections and info of  how the living rooms would have been like and how they lived

The Tudors are coming back!!!

The showtime show the Tudors is coming to BBC America for season 3.
Up until yesterday I thought season was were they had stopped making them. But I found season 3 and 4 on Netflix! From what I can tell, so far the story goes up to Anne of Cleaves and to the very wild Kathryn Howard.

I am hoping with the show coming to BBC America that they will continue to make them go all the way through to the end of Queen Elizabeth the I.
BBC America will have a season 1 marathon starting November 13th starting at 10 est. Then a season 2 marathon starting November 16th at 11est. After that a new episode every Wednesday at 9/8c.
If your into getglue they will have stickers for both marathons and each episode after that.

Happy Veterens Day

To all those that have served our my country, Thank you so very much

fifties glam

I have a new obsession, and it seems to be 50’s glam, and it seems to be back in full force at least on the TV. I am absolutely addicted to Pan Am and the playboy club.

The fifties was the height and unfortunate end of what I consider old movie star glamour and the art of being a lady. I am by no means anything close to being anything like a glamorous ladies of the past. I do very much enjoy not having dress up for every little thing, like women were expected to in the past. (My Granny would not even answer the door without a full face of makeup and her done to pristine.) But their is a part of me that wishes I could dress like that, and prance around in heels all the time.

The thing that entrances me with these shows is not so much the plot, although both have proved to amazing. Its the little things, the white gloves, how they walked, the sweet manners of days gone by. I do consider myself to modern woman, a bit of a feminist and liberal. I am very proud of how society has become open and accepting of people outside the “norm”. But I think we have kind of lost something along the way. We seem to have lost the graciousness of the past, and the art of being woman and lady. In our world now, being a lady seems is practically frowned on. Its almost like if you act with manners and grace, and dress up, you are considered the outcast.  Watching these shows you can get a glimpse of what it was like and how is was to be a true lady in a world that appreciates

Who is the Fairest of them all?

So who is the fairest Snow White? She seems to be popping up everywhere. There are two new movies in the make and even the new ABC fall show Once upon a time, where she is the one of the main characters.

As for the new movies coming out, their is Snow White and the Huntsman and The Brother's Grimm: Snow White. Both movies seem to forgo the old wait for my prince to come Disney attitude and have Snow White taking up arms

Snow White the Huntsman Stars Kristen Stewart (aka Bella ) as Snow White and Charlie Theron as the Evil queen. In this version the huntsman and Snow white band together to defeat the evil queen. I must say Charlie Theron looks amazing in this. Due out June 1st 2012

Snow White and the huntsman facebook

The Brothers Grimm: Snow White stars Julia Roberts as the evil queen and lily Collins (daughter of Phil Collins) as Snow White. This is suppose to be a dark version of in which the queen kills Snow White's father, takes over the kingdom and pretty much destroys it. Snow White escapes to the woods and joins up with the dwarfs who help her fight to take back her kingdom. Due out March 16th 2012

  4. New TV shows and new ones of old favorites
  5. Delicious caramel apples
  6. candy corn!
  7. The wonderful wonderful smells of fall, the smells of cinnamon, oranges and cloves filling the air, I just love that.
  8. snuggling under blankets and watching a great movie
  9. windy days
  10. and finally misty misty mornings

Once upon a time

New show coming to ABC in October that looks absolutely fabulous! I am one of those people that never grew out of her love of fairy tales, and apparently I am not alone in that. This show is about the Evil queens revenge. In revenge she transports all the fairy tale characters, the horrible place of suburbia, and the only person that can save them is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. The one thing I seem to like most of this, is it seems to give both sides. From what I can tell it shows the Evil Queen as a more human character and gives her side

Ok I have seen some fabulous makeup in my time. But this is the best. I mean wonder woman was just the best superhero ever. I always loved her best of the the female superhero. That woman could accessorize better than any other.

Deco Dames

Parisian-Chic

If you ask my mom, she would say I am no where near being what a deco dame is. I am by no means glamorous or elegant. But I have always been entranced by ladies of old, the customs, manners, traditions and beauty of them. I have always been in love with history. Even as child, I remeber watching little women and little house on the prairie and wanting to climb into their worlds. So I guess this blog is my way of climbing into that world if only for a little a bit. I hope you enjoy it.
